General Plan Guidelines Engagement
Throughout the course of the project, LCI has engaged dozens of experts through a series of Advisory Group (AG) and Interagency Advisory Group (IAG) sessions. To date, we have hosted two AG meetings, and three IAG meetings, in which participants have discussed relevant planning challenges and opportunities and provided initial feedback on draft frameworks of the General Plan Guidelines.
Advisory group members were selected from a pool of individuals who completed an initial project interest form. LCI set a goal of creating balanced groups that included input from planners in the public, private, and advocacy sectors. Though the period to join an advisory group has now closed, interested planners and other members of the public will have several opportunities throughout the project period to share feedback on the guidelines, and LCI will also host several workshops to solicit input on topics within the General Plan Guidelines not covered by our advisory groups (e.g. rural planning perspectives, urban design, and working lands).
Our AGs and IAGs convene to discuss the following chapters of the General Plan Guidelines:
Land Use
Mobility
Conservation/Open Space
Climate
Engagement
Equity and Environmental Justice
Legal/CEQA
Safety
Water
Throughout the rest of these sessions, participants will review and provide feedback on required and optional content, evaluate our “building blocks” approach to the General Plan Guidelines, and submit case studies to provide jurisdictions with examples of best practices and success stories. Tribal Consultation Guidelines & Toolkit Engagement
LCI also has upcoming engagement with our Planning Tribal Advisory Group, which will convene regularly over the next 18 months to discuss LCI’s Tribal Consultation Guidelines Update and Toolkit Development, review materials related to the General Plan Guidelines and Specific Plan Guidelines updates, and provide helpful input to make sure LCI’s guidance is inclusive of and responsive to Tribal issues and priorities.
Nominations for the Planning Tribal Advisory Group are now open. For more information on the nomination process, view this fact sheet. LCI will accept nominations through May 22, 2026 at 11:59 pm. All nominations may be sent to LCI via email at tribal.affairs@lci.ca.gov.
